Installing CentOS on the Raspberry Pi 2

Continuing with the Raspberry Pi Server and Mini Cluster project, the first step to installing the current CentOS Linux AltArch Arm32 version on the Raspberry Pi 2 was to download the latest release. I’ll come back to this operating system (OS) image later. 1. Backing Things Up - Always, Always, Always My Raspberry Pis came bundled with a nice 8 GB micro SD card preloaded with NOOBS. In case I want to revert to this image later on, I created a cloned image of the SD card. Though installing NOOBS is pretty straight forward, I still backed this up just, cause I can.

Raspberry Pi Server and Mini Cluster

Raspberry Pi® A Raspberry Pi ® is practically a very small and simple (yet powerful) mini computer. Started by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, it’s accompanied software is based of a Linux Debian distribution and accordingly named " Raspbian" - other OSs available for install, mostly Linux based, which is great and perfect for this project! I will chose one of these another distros for these Pis. Recently the Raspberry Pi 3 came out - yes I know - but it would be a bit more expensive considering I also need a SD card for each, and being that they just came out, well…they are being overpriced off course! So I decided to start off by buying four (4) of these bad boys ( Raspberry Pi 2) and play with them first. I may end up buying one (1) additional Raspberry Pi 3 and use it as the master node, especially since this model has wi-fi onboard!

Remote Server

Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices are very useful, but getting one will cost more than the money I would like to spend–between buying the unit itself and the actual drives to insert. Not only that, but it really won’t function as the storage destination I intend to use it as since it lacks an OS. Some sell with a GUI interactive system, but nothing beats a command-line interaction when requiring power. I need control and power…Linux anyone?
